Android Handsfree

parrot.gifSometimes I experience the frustrations of being a mobile phone consumer rather than those of being a phone software developer.

As I mainly work from home I don’t tend to drive that much. When I do, I am of the ‘old school’, in that I just let the phone ring and don’t answer it. However, recently there have been a few occasions where I really should have taken the call.

I am currently using the Android-based T-Mobile Pulse. I purchased a Parrot MiniKit and spent too much time this morning trying to get it working with the Pulse. Unfortunately, when the call is taken via the Parrot, voice continues to come from and be accepted by phone rather than Parrot.

I also tried on the older G1 (now running Android 1.6 as opposed to 1.5 on the Pulse) and I got it to hand over calls ok but can’t send contacts from phone to Parrot. Hence, I can’t dial from the Parrot.

Reading around, I have found out that even the latest Motorola Droid (on Android 2.0) can’t handle handsfree calls correctly. I find all this unbelievable when Android has been around for so long now.
