I am tending to get more leads for work originating outside mobile itself. People and companies, inspired by what’s possible on the iPhone, are thinking more about how to get their existing or new ideas mobile. In some ways, the success of the iPhone has benefited all platforms.

I inevitably have to explain to these people about mobile fragmentation. Today, I came across a great summary ‘Fragmentation of Mobile Applications’ by Damith C. Rajapakse, a lecturer at National University of Singapore, School of Computing. It includes this great quote that focusses the mind…

"Team that developed the Opera Mini browser found that only way to solve the problem with Java fragmentation was to actually test the application on each and every device from many manufacturers."
