Phone Market Grows 16% in 3Q05
IDC’s Western European Quarterly Mobile Phone Market Tracker reports double digit growth in 3Q05 as shipments increased by 16% year on year.
Geoff Blaber, research analyst, European Mobile Devices at IDC must have been to a few Symbian or Nokia analyst presentations because the press release almost reads like an advert for Series 60. This exuberance is mainly due to the fact that converged devices now command 7% of the market rather than 4% for the same period last year.
More seriously, there’s a useful table of Q5 Western European phone vendor market shares. Usually statistics only quote worldwide shares with Motorola in second place. This table shows Samsung in second place in Europe, leading Motorola by only 1%.
