Camera Phone Shipments to Reach 850 Million in 2009
Having a personal interest in digital photography and having worked for Pixology on their mobile direct-to-store printing application, I have a keen interest in all things to do with camera phones.
The latest InfoTrends report on camera phone shipments caught my eye.

The marriage of the phone and camera creates the potential for new uses beyond those provided by a camera or phone alone. For example, camera phones have already revolutionised consumer led journalism (so called Citizen Journalism). At the recent MEX conference, Brad Rees, Managing Director of Mediacells, reflected on how the July 7 London bombings changed reporting. The BBC received 50 images within an hour of the bombing and Sky showed mobile video within 20 minutes. The big news organisations (BBC, Sky etc) are now taking mobile very seriously. Maybe we focus too much on pushing content. Maybe there are many more camera and non-camera applications where the user is the creator of content.
