Mobile Knock on Effect

apple.gifOver the last few months I have been playing with the iPhone SDK. This has required me to buy a Mac when I have previously had no interest or desire to buy one. Typical iPhone users won’t need a Mac because they can get iTunes on the PC. However, I do wonder how many people will end up buying a Mac because they were drawn in by the iPhone.

In mobile, I have seen several cases where a company has created a mobile version of their service and while the mobile version wasn’t necessarily a great success, it opened up their service to a different type of user who then went on to use the non-mobile service.

Similarly, I have seen companies become higher profile due to their new mobile service. This has helped sell their non-mobile service into companies who were previously unaware or disinterested in their existence.

How might a mobile version of your business have a knock on effect?
