There’s a thought provoking post by David Schatsky on ‘Why Everything Is Getting So Cruddy’. I see this too. DVD players just aren’t are good as they used to be. Yes, they are cheaper and do more but they just don’t work as well. It’s the same for Freeview (DVB-T for those outside the UK). The latest set top boxes are renowned for freezing.

What about mobile phones? Well, some might say they were never totally reliable. In the future, will these also become cheap commodities and usability degrade even further for the sake of price?
