The latest IDC press release tells us that the handheld (non telephony) device market continues to fall…

"For the full year, vendors shipped a total of 3.0 million units worldwide, down 44.3% from the 5.5 million units shipped during all of 2006."

"Handheld devices do not include telephony but may include wireless capabilities (like Bluetooth and WiFi) that enable Internet access and text communication. These devices feature evolved operating systems or applications environments such as the Palm OS, Windows Mobile Pocket PC, Linux…"

I wonder if this device segment will one day experience a recovery if Linux style Internet (WiFi) tablet sales start to make an impression on the more traditional style PDA?
