zzzPhone have announced a service where you can configure your own phone. If you look closely, you will find it’s not that that configurable - form factor and OS (Windows Mobile) are the same whatever variant you specify.
Now if you could change the OS, add touch, add a keyboard… Ultimately, what if you could configure the look and feel of the software for a particular user? I wonder if this is the future?
What’s special about zzzPhone is the cost. Phones start at only $149. Remember this is for a Windows Mobile Phone! I think this is a continuation of the trend I talked about (Rise of the Chinese ODM) when I posted about the Skypephone.
Another interesting possibly is to use the zzzPhone for vertical applications…

Customised hardware and kiosk style applications where the underlying OS is hidden allow zzzPhone to be used for many purposes. Examples include man in a van applications, inventory, teaching and testing.
