Symbian Accredited Developer
I have recently taken the newer Accredited Symbian Developer exam. The latest exam differs to that originally introduced in 2005 so here are a few thoughts for anyone updating or considering accreditation.
The exam now includes Platform Security (for Symbian 9.x). DBMS is no longer part of the syllabus. Some of the questions have been modified to take account of Symbian 9 - things like targettypes (ECOM plugins, apps now exes), tool chain changes, writeable static data, have also been updated.
In terms of platform security, most of the questions could be readily answered if you have developed and shipped a Symbian signed or self-signed S60 3rd Edition or UIQ 3.x application. This is great as you are more likely to have shipped an application than used DBMS!
I recommend Jo Stichbury’s Accredited Symbian Developer Primer that’s useful to brush up on the nuances of c++ and Symbian OS. For people new to ASD, there’s also a paper by Sam Mason and sample questions that are both essential reading as they give a great sense of what to expect of the examination.
