New Symbian Signed Test Criteria Issued

symbian.gifThe new Symbian Signed Test Criteria are no longer draft and were issued today. So what implications does this have for a typical application?

Take an application I am currently working on…

  • I can now remove the intrusive privacy and billing prompts (and settings to control them) that were previously required
  • Autostart now has to be OFF by default. This isn’t so nice as the application relies on running in background. I suppose I will have to add a message somewhere telling the user to turn it on!

[Previously Autostart criteria also specified OFF by default but only when using Manufacturer (Nokia) approved capabilities. If not using Manufacturer capabilities then it could be set ON or OFF.]

Other than this, the criteria don’t really impact the typical application too much.

While the test criteria have been issued, they are not active until the new Express and Certified routes become generally available (expected early December).
