H1 2007 Smartphone Market Share by Region

There’s a recent article at GigaOM that includes an interesting chart of H1/07 smartphone market share…

Such charts are useful as they give a guide as to what platforms are popular in each region. As with my post last February, the chart becomes more interesting when you compare it to a previous one. Here is the previous chart for the whole of 2006…

Here are some conclusions I have drawn…

  • The worldwide market share is much the same as last year with China taking a slightly larger % share at the expense of the US.
  • Despite all the hype over the iPhone and recent muddled stats from iSuppli, Apple has had a negligible affect on the worldwide smartphone market.
  • Symbian continues to have a negligible market share in the US.
  • Remember, the complete smartphone market (what the complete chart represents) is increasing significantly every year (39% according to Canalys) so everyone is a winner… and makes the respective chart sizes approximately as follows…
