Ofcom - The Communications Market 2007
Ofcom have a report on the UK communications market 2007. While much of the information is UK centric, the general trends are probably equally applicable to most countries in Europe. For the first time, Ofcom have included mobile. Here are some insights…

The cost of mobile telcoms is going down. I see this as good for consumers but bad for the operators and people in the mobile industry. The investment in 3G together with much more capable devices should have kick started new revenue from value added services. This hasn’t happened. The network operators haven’t acted in ways to encourage this change.

Here’s just one example. Network operators are locking consumers into longer contracts. This reduces switching (churn) that Ofcom says may restrict the adoption of converged services by delaying take-up of new handset technologies.
It’s not all bad news. The report also states that conditions may be in place for take-off of Internet on mobile phones and mobile advertising business models.
