Usability Study Results

ActionEngine.jpgAs part of MEX, Action Engine has announced the results of a usability study across North America, Europe, the Middle East, and the Asia-Pacific region.

  • Usability is the #1 Purchasing Influencer
  • Cost and Complexity Prevent Usage
  • Email is Not the Killer Mobile App
  • Users Want More Personalization Options
  • Speed is the Key
  • Off-Portal Downloads are the Most Popular Delivery Mechanism

I find "Email is Not the Killer Mobile App" surprising. More specifically, respondents ranked interest in News, Weather, Travel, Driving Directions, and Mapping applications above communications applications, like Email and Instant Messenger. While I don’t believe there is/will be one "Killer App", I would have thought Email would currently be the most popular.

Mobile email is the hottest area in mobile enterprise at the moment. Maybe the respondents were thinking in terms of consumer rather than enterprise applications or were asked the question within a particular context.
