Java Mobile FX Binary Only?
I have been following the news on Sun’s new Java Mobile FX which is based on code acquired from SavaJe’s failed attempt to bring a Java based mobile OS to the market.
The news on EETimes states…
"Sun will sell the software only in a binary version to ensure compatibility across different systems."
If this is true, this implies that licensees (if they get any) won’t have as great a control of changing the OS as they have with Windows Mobile, Symbian or Mobile Linux.
This may be good in that less will have to be done to tailor the OS to fit hardware. Conversely, it may prevent phone OEMs and network operators from customising devices to their own requirements that, in itself, may hamper uptake.
