The latest news is that Sun has acquired SavaJe’s intellectual property. SavaJe technologies extend mobile Java such that very much more of the OS  (rather than additional applications) are implemented in Java.

Up to now, Sun has limited mobile Java’s scope to that of running under 3rd party mobile operating systems. This latest acquisition makes me wonder whether Sun is going to create a new Java based mobile platform to compete with Symbian, Windows Mobile and Linux.
