Why Open C ?
I have been wondering why Nokia has been putting so much effort into Open C. More specifically, Nokia has gone to great lengths to extend Symbian’s PIPS and publicise it to developers. These thoughts came about after several people emailed asking me what I thought was the reason for PIPS and Open C other than to allow improved porting of POSIX code.
While I don’t have any answers, I came across an article that made me think that it’s as much about N-Gage gaming as it is about porting applications from POSIX…
"One of the key things is that now we are based on C++ as opposed to Symbian there has been a good response to the easier learning curve. Choosing Open C means more opportunities for development and more opportunities to find new talent and get developers involved in the creation of N-Gage games, as opposed to Symbian applications."
