95% of Mobile Services Fail in the Market

theregister.gifThe Register quotes Steve Dietch, the chief marketing officer of HP’s OpenCall group as saying…

"Compared to Japan and Korea, operators in the US and Europe have taken a disproportionate share of the revenue - as high as 70 percent - then they’re surprised that they’re not getting good content developed, or that developers are going out of business,"

While I am not sure where Steve gets his stats on 95% failure from, I do know that there are less and less people coming to me with ’startup’ type ideas. In 2005, most of my work was on feasibility studies and demos for smaller companies. In contrast, this year I have spent most of my time working for established larger companies (Philips, Sony Ericsson and Symbian).
