Symtopia Stats
Trying to decide whether to develop for Series 60 3rd Edition or UIQ 3.0? Want to know what types of applications people are looking for? I have been looking at the web stats for Symtopia.com and the results might be of interest to Symbian mobile developers.
The stats come from AWStats (web logs) and also from the Symtopia database which logs inbound and outbound hits per software category. The site currently gets between 700 and 1000 unique visitors per day.
First of all, the most popular Google search term is ‘uiq 3.0 software’. In fact, this is twice as popular as ’s60 3rd software’. This tends to suggest that more people are searching for UIQ 3.0 software. However, I am not totally sure about this as it probably depends on how Google is ranking the site for the respective search terms. i.e. There are more sites listing S60 software than UIQ 3.0 software!
The ratio of inbound to outbound hits for each software category gives an indication of whether people are being given sufficient links to software. i.e. Whether there’s a surplus or deficit of software titles for that category.
For S60, there’s a high ratio of outbound to inbound hits for…
-
Games
-
Internet
-
File Management
…and a low ratio for…
-
Mapping
-
Religion
-
Synchronisation
-
Travel
For UIQ, there a high ratio of outbound to inbound hits for…
-
Office
-
Games
-
Time & Expenses
… and a low ratio for…
-
Telephony
-
Security
This suggests you should be developing S60 mapping, religion, synchronisation and travel apps or UIQ telephony and security apps.
