Why is Photo Messaging More Popular?
Two years ago, camera phones were the latest thing. Network operators quickly became disappointed when high camera phone sales didn’t translate to higher MMS (picture message) usage. The barriers to consumer use were mainly perceived to be lack of correct setup of phones and unknown cost.
Well, somehow these barriers seem to have been overcome. The latest report by WebitPR shows that photo messaging is becoming popular - and is more popular than browsing news/information or accessing email.
I think that this is mainly due to improved usability and awareness. Phone OEMs have made it easier to send images from built-in applications. Third parties such as image libraries and printing services have also helped to educate users of the possibilities. They have also explained to users how they can setup and use photo messaging.
So, three key success factors might be usability, user awareness and… patience!
