TrimTrac Mobile
It’s always good to see a project you have been involved with come to fruition. TrimTrac Mobile is one such project. I was involved only in the very early stages when I performed a feasibility study for Sampson Technology to work out whether this project was possible.

Sampson Technology went on to develop this project using Windows Mobile 5.0. Why? Well, it was the easiest to develop for and provided the largest screens (at the time) for mapping. At the time, I recommended Symbian (S60) if the product was to be targeted at Europe and Windows Mobile if it was to be targeted at the USA - due to the respective user base of each OS.
It turns out that the actual decision of device/OS might not matter. This mobile application is of the type that people (or more likely companies) will probably buy a device just to have tracking capability. It’s almost a vertical application in that respect.
At a recent Mobile Monday, the MD of Sampson Technology was recently demonstrating the finished software to me when he suddenly looked very shocked as he saw his own car had moved! He put it down to a glitch. At the following month’s Mobile Monday he told me we had witnessed someone actually crashing into his car!
As with most mobile applications, the success for TrimTrac will be as much about sales/marketing as as it is about the technical capabilities.
