Web Server based Remote Control of Phone

nokia.gifNokia Research have an interesting proof of concept for S60 2nd Edition Feature Pack 2 based devices (e.g. 6630). It creates a web server on your phone that, with the help of a Nokia server, allows you to access your phone from any normal internet browser.

The interesting part is the hook into Python which opens up the phone API and allows you to do things remotely such as take pictures and send messages. This creates a whole new class of possible ‘telemetry’ type applications where there’s no-one actually at the phone UI. Alternatively, where there’s someone actually using the phone, this idea might be used to provide ‘push’ information such as instant messages and email messages. Looking at it yet another way, it might provide web access to data (images, files etc) on your phone.
