Importance of Content
IDC have a new study on the 10 smaller emerging wireless players that IDC analysts believe are worthy of highlighting to the broader wireless industry and that have the potential to make an impact in the larger wireless market.
"The 10 wireless players to watch, as selected by IDC, are: Adamind, Cbeyond, Enpocket, Kargo, Kodiak, LimeLife, mFoundry, Mobilitec, Vercuity, and Visage Mobile. The companies chosen echo three broad themes for 2006: the growth of content markets and the consequent complexity of wireless content ecosystems"
It’s interesting that IDC have chosen to highlight mainly 3rd party content creation and management. However, we should not forget consumer-created content. Email and messaging tend to be very compelling and cost nothing to ‘produce’. These types of content also tend to play to the mobile phone’s strength of delivery of immediate and time sensitive data as opposed to static information that people can wait to consume when they get back to their PC. I wonder how many other such consumer-generated content applications are waiting to be discovered?
