Carbide.c++ Express Released

carbideexpress.gifNokia have released the (free) Carbide.c++ Express for Symbian C++ development. The Nokia Forum description confusingly describes it…

"Carbide.c++ Express is intended to replace the Symbian SDK command line tools as the entry level development tool for non-commercial Symbian OS development"

While it’s the entry level tool, it is possible to use it for commercial Symbian OS development. The Forum Nokia discussion web site has a better explanation…

"Note that this is the first in a family of tools. The intent of this first release is to provide a modern yet free replacement for using the command line tools when building simple applications. The intended target customers are users that have so far been restricted to using command line, not because of choice but because of the cost associated with IDE-based development solutions. Such users include hobbyists, students, open source developers etc. Now these developers can get the benefits of improved ease-of-use and higher productivity as provided by an advanced IDE."

Note, also, that although it has been developed by Nokia, it is equally as useful for UIQ development.
