Mobile Phones Used for More than Just Talking

sprint.gifSprint has just announced the results of the Sprint U.S. Consumer Wireless Usage Study performed last October, a nationwide survey of wireless phone users. The findings show that more than half of wireless phone subscribers (56 percent) rely on their mobile phones for features such as cameras, clocks, calendars, messaging, music and as a substitute flashlight for seeing in dark places.

I personally find the results if the above question quite interesting. When users were asked what product they wanted to add to their phone, they mentioned practical things that would interact with their immediate environment (e.g. faxing, temperature, printing, money) rather than traditional converged consumer electronics functionality. I have worked with mobile entrepreneurs large and small and most of them (maybe incorrectly) tend to think up intangible services or converged electronics rather than real-life practical tools.
